Sweet is not exactly a word that describes me, but my husband set up my blog, and that is what he named it. Seeing that he is my biggest fan, how could I change it?

Madonna

                                                                         6 x 6
                                                                       (Sold)
I did this early this morning, and I sold it this afternoon. What I like about folk art is that you don't have to be exact, and it doesn't matter if the proportions are off. That is why I also love painting abstracts. I am not a realistic painter. My mind is too scattered, and I am messy. I use to get in trouble for it, but now when it shows up in my art,  I don't think it's a bad thing. It's me!

Mermaid

                                                                          11 x 14
                                                                       Mix Media

Folk Art is "the style of the week". It's hot and humid here in Mississippi, and I wish I was back on the beach with the wonderful ocean breeze. I'll be back there in a couple of weeks, so until then, I think I will just paint in my air condition studio.

Thought of the week: Parenting is HARD! I looked at Tommy last night, and said "I'm not sure I signed up for this". Everyone warned me about the teenage years. I thought, not my children. Ha! I just wonder when I became so "uncool". I thought I was kind of hip for almost 50. I guess not, so to show them, I think I'll go put on a long blue jean skirt, put my hair up in a bun, and go bake some bread!

America

                                                                        11 x 14

I'm home from the beach, and had a wonderful time with my friends. How fortunate am I to have old, true friend that you can be yourself with. We laughed, danced, ate well, slept late and just had a great time together. My friend's condo is covered with folk art. I've always loved this type of art and use to paint it. Lately, I've just gone in a different direction. However, it's part of my soul, and it's fun to go back to it every once in a while. I painted this as a thank you for my friend Sue. Her son, Eric, is a marine serving in Afghanistan. I can't imagine what she goes through on a daily basis worrying about him. I worry every time my children drive somewhere at night. So, when you read this, please say a prayer for Eric, as well as for the other men and women serving our country.

Yellow Drip Tree

                                                                            8x10

I haven't posted anything in awhile. I just haven't been excited and pleased with any of my work, but I am going to the beach tomorrow with my girlfriends, so I know it will be over a week before I can post again. This is a yellow drip tree I did this week. I actually haven't painted much, because I have been spending a lot of time with my youngest daughter, Grace. She unfortunately is the only child without her licence, so she is stuck with me. At least I'm sure that is how she see it. I see it as a wonderful time for the two of us just to hang out.

Next week is my time though. I've known these women since Jr. High. We all turn 50 this year, and Sarah's birthday is next week, so what better way to celebrate, than with each other. I am so fortunate to be surrounded by so many wonderful women in my life. I have my old friends, my artist friends that encourage me, and my very special "heart" friends. More than likely if you are reading my blog, you are one. So thank you for being my friend.
