Sweet is not exactly a word that describes me, but my husband set up my blog, and that is what he named it. Seeing that he is my biggest fan, how could I change it?

Art Camp

This week, I had the pleasure of teaching art to 2nd and 3rd graders at Madison Heights Presbyterian Church's Art and Sports Camp.  It is an outreach they do for children in our area.  I had a wonderful time with my children.  One of their projects was to do a painting using glue and then pastels.  They first drew what they wanted on a piece of black construction paper and then outlined it in glue.  The next day they colored in the lines with chalk pastels.  I was amazed at the creativity of these rising 2nd and 3rd graders.  I think they did an outstanding job, so of course I had to show you some.  I think you will agree with me that they are indeed wonderful.

Young Life

My two oldest children left for Young Life camp Sunday.  Seeing them excited and looking forword to this week was such a blessing to me.

Three years ago, when we moved backed to Mississippi, decided to live in Madison, and send our children to public schools, I was determined to find a way for my children to meet other Christian teens.  I knew Young Life was big in Jackson, but I found out it was not yet at Madison Central, so the next year, it became my mission to bring it to Madison.  With the help from the Jackson leaders and another family I knew in Madison, we spent the first year putting together a committee and finding a leader for our area.

The process was slow.  Last year, we were pleased with the 6 students that signed up for YL summer camp.  So, you can't imagine how excited I was that this year we filled a whole bus headed to Sharptop Cove.  I have never met an individual that didn't say that their week at a YL camp was one of their best experiences of their lives.

So, I am thanking God this week for this organization and the young people that devote their time and lives reaching out to teens, and I pray that lives will be touched this week.  God is so faith.

Summer Heat

It's been awhile since I've posted.  I took the month of June off.  Didn't even pick up a paint brush.  Thank you to those individuals that wrote to me, encouraging me to continue blogging.  I saw my friend Ruthie this past weekend, and she told me that she was going to hold me accountable, and Ruthie is someone I wouldn't want to disappoint.

Ruthie and I met at a workshop in Atlanta, and I just sensed she was a believer.  We started talking, and found out our girls went to the same summer camp.  Then we realized that her oldest daughter had been  my daughter, Gwynn's counselor the year before.  Then when we met up this year at DeSoto, her middle daughter was Grace's counselor.  If these young ladies are anything like their mother, my girls have been truly blessed.  Please take time and visit her website. Ruthie Carlson's Holiday Studio
